Enter to win a laser by renewing or joining ILDA before Dec. 31 2010

Wicked Lasers has donated one of their well-known Spyder III Arctic lasers to help support ILDA. We're giving out this 800 mW, 445 nm (blue) handheld laser FREE, to one lucky company or person who renews or joins before the end of this year. (ILDA Memberships end on Dec. 31 of each year, so dues should be paid in December, or January at the latest.)

When you renew or join ILDA before December 31, we create tickets for you and put them into a box, for a drawing in January.

Remember that ILDA Corporate Member dues are based on your annual lasershow-related revenue. The higher your dues, the more tickets you get and thus the more chances to win. (Specifically, each Member will get the same number of tickets as they have voting rights under ILDA's Bylaws.)

• Corporate level 1 (annual dues $1000): 4 chances to win

• Corporate level 2 (annual dues $500): 3 chances to win

• Corporate level 3 (annual dues $250): 2 chances to win

• Nonprofit organization or Individual (annual dues $125): 1 chance to win

• Student Members (annual dues $50) do not have a vote according to ILDA's Bylaws, so they are not eligible to enter the drawing.

Early in January, we will have a public drawing in Orlando where one ticket will be drawn. If it is your ticket, you win the laser!

A great chance to win

Because of the relatively small number of ILDA Members, you have an excellent chance of winning. This means it is well worth it to renew early, and get in the drawing.

A list of renewing and new 2011 Members is on this page. Note that the list is not updated daily. The final list, which determines who is in the drawing, will be updated and posted within a few days after the deadline has passed.

Please note the following important safety information

This is a Class 4 laser. It is NOT a laser pointer or a toy. It is NOT a demonstration, surveying, leveling, alignment or medical laser product. It is intended for use by persons knowledgeable about laser hazards. For Class 4 lasers, these hazards include eye damage from the direct and reflected beam, and skin burns. The winner will be required to read and acknowledge the hazards of this laser. If the winner is not comfortable with owning this laser, or if local laws make it illegal or impractical to own or import, the winner will receive an alternative prize of a $250 credit on their 2012 ILDA dues.

Additional information about laser safety and this drawing

• This laser is NOT given to or intended for the general public. By holding this drawing, ILDA is NOT endorsing the use of Class 4 lasers by the general public.
• This laser is intended for ILDA Members, most of whom already own and use Class 4 lasers. Further, when joining ILDA, Members affirm they have read and understand basic laser safety principles. Finally, the Member winning the drawing will be required to sign a statement acknowledging the specific hazards of this laser.
• No one is being forced to have this laser. The winning ILDA Member may choose the alternative prize instead.
• It is legal to own and use this laser in the United States. This laser contains all safety features required of Class 4 lasers in the United States.
• Outside the U.S., laws can vary widely. Therefore, ILDA will wait to see who the drawing winner is, before determining the legality of importing and use in the winner's country. In case of any difficulties, the alternative prize will be awarded.
• By holding this drawing, ILDA is not taking a position on any other issues or concerns regarding the manufacturer or regarding Class 4 lasers in general. This is a simply a drawing for a particular laser, donated to us, which is legal to own and use in the U.S. and hopefully in the winner's jurisdiction.

DETAILS: DRAWING AND PRIZE RULES

Drawing Rules

1) The drawing is open to companies/persons who renew or join ILDA for the 2011 Membership Year, by the deadline of 11:59 pm December 31 2010 at their local time. The appropriate Membership dues must be paid in full by the deadline. The term of Membership must be for at least one year (12 months).

1a) Any company/person who is already a 2011 Member will also automatically be qualified and entered. See the list of those who are already 2011 Members here.

2) Standard sequentially-numbered raffle tickets will be used. Each qualifying Member will be issued the same number of tickets as they have ILDA votes (e.g., based on their Membership category as stated in ILDA's Bylaws). The name of the Member will be written on the back of each ticket.

3) Early in January, we will announce a drawing location in Orlando. The announcement of the location will be emailed to the ILDA List and Laserist List, at least five days in advance.

4) Attending the drawing will be Executive Director Patrick Murphy and ILDA Board Members Paul Berthot and Hayden Hale. Any other interested persons are welcome to attend (you do not have to be an ILDA Member).

5) Berthot and Hale will review ILDA's Membership list, the tickets and the names written on the tickets, to ensure that each qualifying Member is represented and has the correct number of tickets.

6) One of the persons in the room will be randomly selected (by a separate pre-drawing) to draw the tickets.

7) The tickets will be put into an opaque container and will be evenly shaken. One ticket will be drawn by the person selected in step 6 above. The company or person written on the ticket is the winner of the laser!

Prize Rules

1) The prize is a Wicked Lasers Spyder III Arctic laser system with nominal output power in the 700-800 mW range. The system includes all retail components including battery, charger, Wicked-supplied laser safety glasses, standard (clear) lens, and training (80% blocking) lens. The laser has been tested and appears to work fine. We cannot guarantee any specific output power or lifetime. The retail value of the laser is USD $300.

2) The winner will be provided with safety information about this laser. Before the laser can be delivered, they will be required to sign an acknowledgement that they have read and understand this safety information.

3) ILDA will pay for ground or lowest-cost shipping from our office to the winner's specified location. Any taxes, import duties, or other fees which are not directly part of shipping transportation costs, are the responsibility of the winner. The winner may optionally pay for express modes of shipping if they wish faster delivery.

4) ILDA understands that it may not be possible for the winner to own or use this laser in their home or place of business, due to local laws. In addition, there may be export restrictions imposed by the U.S., or import restrictions imposed by the winner's country, which make it illegal or impractical to ship the laser to the winner. Finally, even if the laser is legal for use in the winner's jurisdiction, the winner may not wish to own a handheld Class 4 laser due to the potential hazards.

4a) In such a case, instead of the laser, the winner shall receive a $250 credit towards 2012 ILDA Membership. This credit is good only for the winner (or his/her company) and is not transferable.

Jurisdiction

In case of any issues arising from this contest which cannot be resolved by the Executive Director, the ILDA Board shall discuss and vote on the issue(s), and their decision shall be final.
