Places to see ongoing laser shows

Below are some places with ongoing laser shows where you have a good chance to see laser shows. Many of these shows, especially at theme parks, may run only during peak times such as summer and holidays, to keep people in the parks at night. Therefore, be sure to check with the venue to see if the laser show is running, before making firm plans.

Finding temporary shows

Also, special events such as fairs and expositions often have laser shows either as part of the event itself, or as a peripheral event. (For example, lasers were used in the 2010 Super Bowl halftime show to enhance the performance of The Who.)

To find temporary or touring laser shows, search for "laser show" or "lasershow". In Google, click on the "News" link at the top of the search results; this returns the latest news items about laser shows. To give an example, a Google News search conducted in mid-March 2010 turned up about ten upcoming shows scheduled for various U.S. cities.

Various/Touring
Paramount's Laser Spectacular, shows built around one group or musician, such as Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Alan Parsons. Check the schedule to see when it is nearby.

California
Anaheim - Disneyland, Fantasmic evening show
Cupertino - DeAnza Planetarium at DeAnza College (seasonal). From Peter Holley: "This is a LIVE show with a live operator. The equipment is a 3W Coherent white light and a planetarium-class Laser Fantasy projector with 2 channel analog color modulation that is mixed and sent to three separate scan heads. There is also a path for PCAOM scanning that is used occasionally. Most if not all shows are Laser Fantasy based with heavy use of cycloids with a measure of graphics interspersed and occasional PCAOM graphics."

     Orlando - Walt Disney World:
          EPCOT Center, Illuminations evening show
          Disney's Hollywood Studios, Voyage of the Little Mermaid show
          Disney's Hollywood Studios, Fantasmic evening show
     Orlando - Sea World, occasional evening fireworks/waterscreen show
     Orlando - Universal Orlando (older park, not Islands of Adventure), Universal 360 Cinesphere Spectacular show around the lagoon (runs seasonally)

Kentucky
Louisville - University of Louisville Rauch Planetarium

Louisiana
Baton Rouge - Dixie Landin' Theme Park. "Summer Lights on Summer Nights" laser show from May 20 - August 8 2010, weeknights (M-F) at 9:00 PM.

Nevada
Las Vegas - Sam's Town, Mystic Falls Park area

New York
Near Buffalo - Darien Lake Theme Park Resort presents Laserblast from mid-May through early October. This 24-minute show features sophisticated laser visuals projected onto a gigantic mesh screen, dynamic beam effects viewed in mid-air and precisely-timed pyrotechnics -- all choreographed to music ranging from rock to country and pop to patriotic. This show has won numerous awards from ILDA and IAAPA.
New York City - Grand Central Terminal laser show (seasonally in winter)

North Carolina
Hickory - Catawba Science Center

Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh - Carnegie Science Center "Laser Nights"
Pittsburgh - Kennywood Amusement Park. Nightly shows 30 minutes before closing, began in May 2010 (may be summer only).

South Carolina
Myrtle Beach - The Carolina Opry "Light"

South Dakota
Crazy Horse (Black Hills area) - Crazy Horse Memorial

Texas
Killeen - Mayborn Planetarium and Space Theater
Lubbock - Moody Planetarium at Texas Tech University

Washington State
Grand Coulee - Grand Coulee Dam
Seattle - Laser Dome at Pacific Science Center

China

Hong Kong - Nightly laser & light show in Hong Kong Harbour. Probably the world's largest ongoing lightshow.

Germany

Hamburg - The Planetarium Hamburg, located in a historic water tower in Hamburg's city park, offers a variety of shows, many of them including laser shows. Especially the music-orientated "popstars" shows feature a variety of laser shows on a modern 9-projector RGB system, including two robot-moved projectors; all combined within a multimedia ensemble of lighting, video and star projection.
