book:
"World of Manick Sorcar: Where
Art Becomes Magic"
 A
new book has been published about the life and art of ILDA Member Manick
Sorcar. Among the many art forms Manick has worked with is, of course,
laser. He is a two-time ILDA Award winner, most recently for
"Reflection" which was the
cover
for the Summer 2008 Laserist magazine. (Manick was also
interviewed in the
magazine's pages.)
Authored by Roma Sur, the
210-page hardcover book extensively documents Manick's artworks,
cartoons, animations and laser art. There are 60 laser-related pages
with laser-only images as well as many works where laser is incorporated into dance or other
art forms. The book is so up-to-date, that it includes a laser portrait
of Barack Obama after he won the Democratic party nomination in August
2008, plus photos from the September 2008 ILDA cruise.
This is a must-have for
anyone interested in laser shows and especially in laser as an art form.
The non-laser chapters are just as fascinating; for example, Manick
creates artworks in many media including
portraits made of seeds and of newspaper clippings.
