ILDA and Laserist mailing lists
ILDA runs two main email lists:
Subscribing and unsubscribing How to subscribe to the ILDA and Laserist lists
How to unsubscribe from a list To unsubscribe from either list, simply send an email message (any message; the subject and content do not matter) to the list's unsubscribe address:
Note that this MUST be sent using the same email address that is already registered with the list. You will receive a confirmation email, letting you know that you have unsubscribed. Depending on the list, you may need to reply to this message to complete the unsubscribing process.
Subscribing to other lists (for ILDA Members only)
ILDA also has other specialized mailing
lists for ILDA internal use. These include lists for the Technical
Committee, the Awards Committee, the Safety Committee and the Board. If
you are interested in a committee but not on its list, contact ILDA's
Executive Director to be added to the list. Reading messages from the lists You will receive any and all messages sent to the lists. They will simply appear in your email Inbox just like other email. As of 2013, there are typically only a few messages per week. At certain times, however, there may be many per day. If this bothers you, just wait it out! Delete any unwanted messages. If you get a "Bounce notice" saying messages to you have been bouncing You may get an email stating "Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the [listname] mailing list.... Messages to you from the mailing list seem to have been bouncing.... If this message bounces too, I will send you a probe. If the probe bounces, I will remove your address from the mailing list, without further notice." This means that the automated mailing list program (called "ezmlm") could not deliver a message from the ILDA List to your email inbox. This could be due to your server being down temporarily, or because a spam filter blocked the message. One good sign is that you got the bounce notice message, so at least you know that the ezmlm program is sending to an email address which you are receiving. First, check the email address that the list is sending to. You can see this both from the address used by the bounce notice, and from the notice itself which contains the header of the message that bounced. It may be that your list address was temporarily "out of order". Assuming that your list address is valid, check your spam settings. If possible, change the settings as shown:
If everything seems OK with your email address and spam settings, it could be "just one of those things" where a one-time problem caused the bounce. Just keep an eye on your inbox in subsequent days and weeks to be sure you still get messages from the ILDA and/or Laserist lists. If these still do not
work, contact ILDA and we will try to help. How to send messages to the lists How ILDA Members can send a message to the ILDA List ILDA List subscribers can use this email address to send messages to the ILDA List:
Note that only people who are on the ILDA List, can send email to the list. This means that to send messages, you must use the same email address that is registered with the list. For example, if you were subscribed using "bob.smith@yahoo.com", then you must send from that account. Otherwise, the message will be rejected and you'll get a "Failure notice" sent from the automated list manager.
How ILDA Members can reply to ILDA List messages ILDA List subscribers who want to reply to a message can simply click the "Reply" button in your email program. The "To" field will automatically be filled with the sender's email address.
If you click on the "Reply to all" button instead, the "To" field will be filled both with the sender's email address, and the list's email address. The only problem with this is that the sender will receive two copies of your reply! (One to him or her personally, and one to him or her as a member of the list.) How non-members can send a message to either list Non-members cannot directly post to either the ILDA List or the Laserist List. However, if you have a message you feel is appropriate for these lists, you can send your proposed message to ILDA's Executive Director, and ask him/her to forward it to the appropriate list(s). ILDA retains the decision on whether or not to post the message. If you are looking for an
ILDA Member to provide a laser show or product, see the
ILDA Inquiries and Referral Service page.
Inquiries are reviewed by ILDA and are then sent to all ILDA List
subscribers (e.g., all ILDA Members). Message content guidelines and abuse policy Message content on the lists are the responsibility of the person posting. Messages do not necessarily reflect ILDA's policies or positions. The ILDA List is unmoderated. Any messages sent from a subscriber's email address will automatically be posted to the ILDA List within a few minutes. ILDA is not responsible for the content of these messages. Only infrequent, short marketing messages allowed on the ILDA List On the ILDA List, occasional brief commercial messages are permitted, such as for new products or press releases. However, these are NOT marketing or sales lists. If you want to buy or sell lasershow-related items, subscribe to ILDA's BuySell mailing list. This is an "opt-in" list, so it is specifically targeted to people who welcome commercial messages. Abuse policy: ILDA List subscribers may post commercial messages no more than a couple of times per year. If we feel this is being abused, we will first warn a subscriber. We will take into account both how many messages have been sent, and their content (truly special announcements, or just routine sales?). If the abuse continues, we will remove the subscriber temporarily or permanently from the list. Since ILDA is the list owner, this is our right to do so based on our sole opinion. Message content must conform to the ILDA Code of Ethics The ILDA List is not moderated. ILDA does not filter or restrict content in advance. We merely provide an automated method to send and receive messages. All content in a message is solely the responsibility of the person posting. The ILDA Board reserves the right to temporarily or permanently remove an ILDA List subscriber for violations of the ILDA Code of Ethics and/or Code of Business Practice, or for actions detrimental to the List and/or to ILDA.
Abuse policy: If we feel
the privilege of posting is being
abused, we will first warn a subscriber. We will take into account
both how many messages have been sent, and their content. If the abuse
continues, we will remove the subscriber temporarily or
permanently from the list. Since ILDA
is the list owner, this is our right to do so based on our sole
opinion. Other topics List archives (reading past messages) To help prevent spam, the following information is a screen capture (picture) describing how to get past messages from the ILDA List. The blue links are NOT clickable. Please type these links if you need to use them.
You do not have to include a subject or any text. Simply send an email using the indicated address, and the automated system will send back the information you request. Further technical details on the archive system are available in the list instruction manual. For the Laserist List, substitute
"laserist-list" for "ilda-list" in the blue instructions above. If you have questions or problems The mailing list system has an automated help system. To send a "help" request, send email to the following address(es). You do not need to add a subject or any message -- just sending the message is sufficient.
You will receive an email reply from the list system, with instructions about various commands and features. If you need additional
assistance, or if you want to send a one-time message without joining
a list, send an email to ILDA's
Executive Director. |
