Lytle says farewell to ILDA

In January 2006, ILDA executive director David Lytle resigned to take a position with another association that is also close to his heart. David is now public information manager for the Oregon Humane Society. He reports that, unlike ILDA, they are flooded with so many volunteers that people pay to work with the animals! ILDA wishes him the best in his new position.

I remember when I saw laser light for the first time. It was almost 30 years ago in a student apartment. At the time it was incredible to see 2mW of laser light bouncing off a mirrored speaker cone. Little did I guess that I would someday be the editor of The Laserist magazine and ILDA's Executive Director.

But just as all things must pass, it's time for me to say farewell to these endeavors. A new opportunity to work with one of the leading nonprofit organizations in the U.S. grabbed my attention just like a laser did so many years ago.

It's tough to say goodbye. ILDA, however, has made great strides recently: membership has grown to historically high levels, we held our first "no-host" conference in Las Vegas, and I was the first representative of ILDA to testify before the U.S. Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

There were a huge number of stories I reported on and an incredible array of visual sights I was fortunate to feast my eyes on. Best of all, however, were the laserists around the world I was lucky enough to meet. I will always keep my eyes open for the next laser display, and for laserists I have yet to meet.
