Details about joining ILDA

Membership categories

There are four categories of membership in ILDA. The list below describes the categories and (for Corporate) the dues level in more detail.

CORPORATE

A company that is involved with laser displays and shows. This includes making and presenting laser shows, manufacturing lasers and equipment used in laser shows, and providing lasershow-related services.

LEVEL: There are three levels of Corporate Members: larger, mid-sized, and smaller.

Corporate Level 1 (larger companies)
Annual lasershow-related sales of over USD $1,000,000.
ILDA dues are $1000 per year.
You get four votes on ILDA business.
Corporate Level 2 (mid-sized companies)
Annual sales between USD $250,000 and $1,000,000.
ILDA dues are $500 per year.
You get three votes on ILDA business.
Corporate Level 3 (smaller companies)
Annual lasershow-related sales below USD $250,000.
ILDA dues are $250 per year.
You get two votes on ILDA business.

BRANCH OFFICES: If you have offices in different locations, and would like separate listings for them, please see our policy on branch office listings.

NONPROFIT

Museums, schools, planetariums, trade associations, national and local government offices, and other not-for-profit organizations.

INDIVIDUAL

A person who is interested in lasers; this includes freelance laserists.

Individual membership is for non-commercial use only. For example, in your Membership DIrectory listing, you cannot mention a company name or promote a company. (You can promote yourself if you are a freelance laserist.) Click here to view important restrictions.

STUDENT

A person who is enrolled full-time in an accredited school, college or university.

Dues level

For Corporate members, ILDA dues depend on the company's annual lasershow-related billings:

Level 1: Annual billings above USD$1,000,000. ILDA dues are $1000.
Level 2: Annual billings between $250,000 and $1,000,000. ILDA dues are $500.
Level 3: Annual billings less than $250,000. ILDA dues are $250

Here is how to calculate a company's annual lasershow-related billings:

Dues are based on a company's annual billings. This means how much the company made last year (gross sales income, before any expenses or profit are taken out).
Dues are based only on the lasershow-related part of billings. This includes
-- Sales of services such as performing shows or creating artwork
-- Sales and rentals of products such as lasers and projectors.
If a company does lighting, sound and other non-lasershow activities, these are not included -- ILDA is only concerned with lasershow-related activities.
Dues are based on self-reporting. We don't check up on companies. While it is possible that a company could under-report (and pay lower dues than they owe) or over-report (and seem like a larger company in our listings), we trust that companies will pick the correct dues level.

Benefits of paying more dues

Level 1 and Level 2 companies receive more prominent listings in the ILDA Membership Directory. They also have additional votes whenever ILDA has elections for Board of Directors, and when voting on various issues affecting the association. Level 1 Members have four votes, Level 2 Members have three votes, and Level 3 Members have two votes.

Discount for new members joining in mid-year

ILDA's dues year runs from January 1 to December 31.

Current members pay full dues, no matter when during the year they renew.
New members joining between January 1 and March 31 also pay full dues. There is a prorated "mid-year" discount for new members joining between April 1 and November 31. New members joining during December pay full dues and get December of the current year plus all of the next year (e.g., 13 months of membership for the price of 12).

Members in the past 3 years pay full price

Note that there is no mid-year discount for current and recent past Members. This is to avoid a situation where Members let their membership lapse, and then rejoin in the middle of the year to save money. Instead, current and recent past Members must pay the full membership dues no matter when in the year they renew (or rejoin).

"Recent past Members" means if a company or person was an ILDA Member in any of the three years immediately preceding the current membership year.

For example, if you were a Member in 2008, and you wanted to rejoin during 2011, you would pay full price. This is because you were a member during one of the three years immediately preceding 2011 (e.g., 2008, 2009 and 2010).

In 2012 you will have been out of ILDA for four years, so you can join as a "new" member and be eligible for any applicable mid-year discount.
