Hi
I'm new to this forum (and lasers in general) but I would like to learn how to control a laser with basic custom animations, such as scrolling text and logos, and other things like that. I currently own a cheap 260mw red and green laser which does not have any ILDA input on it. It just cycles through its own patterns. I know that its scanning speed wouldn't be capable of animation. I'm looking to buy a new laser with more power but mainly one that I can connect to my PC and do animations. I have a few questions, and I was reluctant to write this post because I normally look round the internet for a while and find my answer - however, although this seems like a pretty standard request, I can't find anything to help me. Firstly, if a laser states in its specifications that it has an ILDA port or ILDA PC control, is it likely that this will be a standard connection/interface or can do these vary from brand to brand? Secondly, what hardware is required to connect the PC to the ILDA port? Is it simply a cable or does it require a special hardware interface? Thirdly, other than software (which I have already read some discussion about) is there anything else required to get the animations from your PC to the laser? If anyone could answer any of my questions or point me in the direction of a website or FAQ that does I would be very greatful. I am also considering setting up a website to help first time users like myself with any information I can gather. If you have any thoughts on this please let me know. Thanks. Paul. |

![]() Also, you have got quite a few active members of PL nearby to you (i'm just south of Leeds, there are also other members within a 20 mile radius of you). You're even more in luck because there is shortly to be a UK Laser Enthusiasts Meeting in Leicester (August 10th). Photonlexicon is THE place to be if you're a laser enthusuiast. I suggest you nip over there real quick and introduce yourself, don't worry we'll treat you gently ![]() Cheers Jem |
