The SAE G-10T Laser Safety Hazards Subcommittee has scheduled a special meeting on November 14-16 2006 in San Antonio. This is for the High-Intensity Lights [spotlights/searchlights] Working Group.
If you work with spotlights and searchlights, and are concerned about U.S. federal regulations that might affect how these can be used outdoors, you should consider being represented at this meeting. You can attend yourself, or you may wish to work with others in your industry to have someone represent your interests. This is very similar to what ILDA Safety Committee chair Greg Makhov was doing over a decade ago, when outdoor laser regulations were first proposed by SAE G-10T.
RSVPs are due by October 20. The announcement below has more details.
-----------------------------------------------------
The purpose of the meeting is to review the SAE Aerospace Recommended Practices document, tentatively entitled Safety Considerations for High-Intensity Lights Projected in the Navigable Airspace. The importance of this document to its primary customers, which include the high-intensity light (HIL) operators in industry and government, is requiring this off-quarter meeting. We need your expertise in this draft review and request that you attend this special meeting.
The meeting will be held at the AFRL/HED at Brooks City-Base, TX and Dr. Leon McLin is the local point-of-contact for this meeting. He can be reached at (210) 536-4816 or leon.mclin@brooks.af.mil (leon.mclin@brooks.af.mil).
Also scheduled during the meeting is a high-intensity light demonstration on Tuesday, November 14 at Sky-View, Inc. The demonstration will include the opportunity to take photometric measurements. I believe all attendees will find this an educational and informative event.
Members are encouraged to make hotel reservations as soon as possible. Several of us have already made reservations at the Amerisuites Riverwalk, 601 S. St. Marys street. I would encourage you to make reservations at or near the same hotel so that transportation to and from Brooks City-Base can be shared. You may contact Amerisuites Riverwalk, San Antonio at (800) 833-1516 or (210) 227-6854.
As a courtesy, please RSVP your intentions to attend this meeting by October 20. You may call me at (202) 267-9231 or e-mail me at stephen.rohring@faa.gov.
