Hi all,

I'm currently researching the possibilities for using a laser in a show.
I am curious to know whether it is possible to use software like Jitter, vvvv, processing,... to generated the images for the laser in realtime?

I'm also trying to figure out what exactly the ILDADB-25F in/out does.

Thanks,
Brecht

I am not familiar with Jitter an vvvv, so can't advised as to whether they are capable of creating output that can be interpreted by an ILDA laser.

I am sure there are more qualified than me to explain the ins and outs of the ILDA standard but my understanding is that it provides a known specific standard that can be used by hardware manufacturers and software developers to enable the control of lasers.

Specific pins control voltages of diodes (effecting the brightness of the beam at a given time) and others control the x,y coordinates of the Galvo / scanners.

As far as i am aware Pangolin is the industry standard for laser control although there are other products out there, your requirements will steer how much money you wish to spend.

I hope this help answer your question. If i have stated anything specifically wrong above i would request the forum moderators make changes as required.

Ben what is the best alternative to Pangolin in the $400 or less price range?

Also, to control a lser via IDLA, is there a connection you can use direct from a laptop to make a laptop to IDLA connection or do you need some kind of control box between the laptop and laser?

I have a Minilumax light interface (www.lumax.de) which connects to windows through usb. It has a ilda-out, but so far I'm only able to control it through the laserworld showeditor which came with the laser (proline 1250mwatt rgb).
Ideally I would like to control it directly from max, but that will require an external object which can translate everything.

Sorry about the really slow reply i have been flat chat and been in repair mode with a projector, so all else has taken a back seat.

I use fiesta, which set me back 660 Euro or AU $1100 i havent got much to compare it with, but for live shows i am very satisfied.IT uses a USB interface that plugs into a rs232 ILDA interface cable.

check out thier web site for motre details

the ability to strate still frames (seperate package Quazar) is a little sucky but probably as basic as the other lower end apps for dealing withthis stuff
