2010 ILDA Conference logo contest

ILDA is holding a contest to design a logo for the 2010 Conference. The logo will be printed on t-shirts given out to registered attendees, as well as other Conference materials. The winner will receive $125 credit towards any ILDA fee or product, plus a copy of the t-shirt (a second copy if they are already going on the cruise).

2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the first working laser, so this would be a good theme for the shirt.

31 May deadline for entry

Entries must be emailed to ILDA by the end of May. Specifically, by 11:59 pm your local time, Monday, 31 May 2010.

Specifications

A primary use of the logo will be on a t-shirt. Therefore, it must be screen printable (no fine gradients or tones).

Two flat colors, your choice.
If the ILDA logo is used as a design element, this must be printed either in black or in ILDA blue as shown at the top left of this page. Thus, one of your colors would be black or ILDA blue, which is R=0, G=7, B=133.
The t-shirt fabric (background) will be white or light colored.
The total screen-printable area is approximately the size of a sheet of U.S. letter sized or international A4 letter paper. The orientation is up to you, either horizontal or vertical. (This translates into a pixel area of roughly 3500 x 2500 at 300 pixels per inch.)

Submissions

Submissions should be in JPEG or GIF format. For judging, submit files that are about 3.5 times smaller than the final camera-ready artwork. This means a submitted resolution of roughly 1000 x 714 pixels, either horizontal or vertical format.

Artwork does not have to be perfect or camera-ready. The artwork can be a sketch or approximation -- as long as you can produce the final camera-ready version if your design is chosen as the winner.

Artwork should be in the public domain (e.g., don' t use a photo of the first laser unless it is somehow public domain). Patent drawings would be in the public domain.

Do not put the logo on a t-shirt or other design. Simply use a rectangular background. For the background color, use white.

Eligibility and judging

Any person, ILDA Member or non-member, may design and/or submit an entry. You may submit as many different designs as you wish.

ILDA reserves the right to ask for changes to artwork based on production or content concerns. ILDA also may not submit artwork for judging, if there are serious production or content concerns.

Judging will be done by an online vote of ILDA Members, in early June. Vote verification and counting will be based on ILDA's best judgment of legitimate votes.

Some past samples

For reference, here are logos from a few past ILDA conferences. The 1999 Conference was held in sunny Orlando; the 2000 Conference in Stuttgart showing the TV Tower, and the 2007 Conference which was held in China.
