ILDA Artistic and Technical Awards deadline has passed

The 2011 ILDA Artistic and Technical Awards deadline was 28 Feb 2011. A list of entries received is below. The remainder of the page (after the list of entries) contains the instructions for the 2011 ILDA Awards entries. Although the deadline has passed, the instructions may still be of interest.

2011 Instructions

This page is for ILDA Members who wish to enter the 2011 ILDA Awards. You may enter laser shows produced or performed between 1 April 2010 and 28 February 2011. Winners of these awards will be announced and presented at the ILDA Awards Banquet during the 2011 ILDA Conference scheduled for Russia.

There are three main awards categories: Artistic, Technical, and Career Achievement Award. The deadline for entering all three Awards is Monday, 28 February 2011. Details are below.

2012 Awards deadline also announced

The deadline for next year's Awards in 2012 will be 31 January. Please plan on videotaping any shows during 2011 that you want to enter in the 2012 Awards.
 

ILDA Artistic Awards
Deadline: Monday, 28 February 2011

The 2011 ILDA Artistic Awards Guide includes rules and entry forms. ILDA Members can download the Guide in these formats:

Microsoft Word format, for U.S. letter-size paper (8.5 x 11")

These documents are only available to ILDA Members. If you are a Member and do not have access to the Members-Only area, please contact ILDA with your member information.

Major changes for 2011

• Changed the name of the “Nightclub/Disco” category to “Nightclub/Disco/Rave” to more clearly indicate that shows for raves are allowed.
• Added a requirement for “Nightclub/Disco/Rave” shows. They must have played in a nightclub, disco or rave, for an audience, in order to be eligible. This helps eliminate any studio-only shows.
• Changed the name of Live “Laser Jockey” Performance category. This formerly was “Live Performance”, which caused some confusion with the Live Stage Show category. By adding “Laser Jockey”, the intent of the category is clearer.
• Changed how Live “Laser Jockey” Performance is entered. It is now possible to enter this category closer in time to the ILDA Conference. Therefore, it is not necessary for anyone wanting to enter this category to do so on the Entry Form. The information on this form, about the Live “Laser Jockey” Performance category, reflects these new changes.
• Clarified that the sender is responsible for tracking their Awards entry shipment.
• Changed the deadline time for hand-deliveries to ILDA’s Orlando office, to 5 pm on deadline day.
• Rearranged and rewrote some of the rules to make them clearer.

Deadline for entering

Entries must be mailed or shipped to ILDA on or before Monday, 28 February 2011 at 11:59 pm, your local time. Anyone who is a current ILDA Member at time of entering is eligible.
 

ILDA Fenning Awards for Technical Achievement
Deadline: Monday, 28 February 2011

ILDA Career Achievement Awards
Deadline: Thursday, 31 March 2011

You do not need a special entry form for this; in fact, you can enter by email if you wish. Here is how to enter:

ILDA is now accepting nominations for the Career Achievement Award. The deadline for nominations has been extended to midnight your local time Thursday, 31 March 2011.

Who may be nominated

You can nominate anyone who is an "exceptional individual with a distinguished history of achievement in the laser display industry." The nominee can be anyone -- they do not have to be an ILDA Member. (You can even nominate yourself, if you wish; this is fine!)

In the past, there have been three broad categories of winners:

• those who helped build significant laser display-related businesses,
• those who made artistic and technical achievements, and
• those who worked to improve ILDA and the laser display industry.

The nominee can have achieved in one, two or all three of these areas. In whatever area(s) they worked, the person should have made significant and lasting achievements in the field of laser display.

How to enter

To enter, submit the nominee's name, plus a biography/description of the person. This should go beyond just a "resume listing" of places they have worked. It should include information about the career of the nominee and why his or her achievements are significant. If you are nominating another person, feel free to work with them, so they can help put together this document.

As a guide, past CAA nomination biography/descriptions have been from 1 to 10 pages, with the average about 2-3 pages.

Send your CAA nomination via e-mail to ILDA's Executive Director. Your nomination submission is confidential; no one will be told who made the nomination.

Automatic entries for 2011

Every CAA nomination is good for five years. This means that once a person has been nominated, they automatically are considered for the next five Awards years (or until they win, of course). These are the "automatic" nominees for 2011:

• Olesya Kazantseva, Laser Artist Co. Ltd. (first nominated 2010)

• Cory Simpson, LFI/Lightspeed/KOHR (first nominated 2007)

• Bernd Steinert, spectrabeam.de (first nominated 2006)

• John Tilp, Laser Images (first nominated 2007)

We will use the most recent biography/description in our files. If you want to submit a new or revised biography/description, send this via e-mail to ILDA's Executive Director by the Thursday, 31 March 2011 deadline.

 

Entries needing re-nomination in order to be considered

 

The following persons were nominated more than five years ago. They will NOT be nominees this year unless someone re-nominates them:

• Carl Hannigan, Precision Projection Systems (first nominated 2004)

• Chris Matthews, Laser Creations Int'l. (first nominated 2004)

• Dick Sandhaus, Science Faction (first nominated 2004)

To renominate someone, email to ILDA's Executive Director by midnight, your local time, 31 March 2011.

Judging process

All nominations received by the 31 March 2011 deadline, plus the "automatic" nominees, will be submitted to the CAA judges. Judging will take place in spring 2011. And, at the 2011 ILDA Conference, the winner of the 2011 Career Achievement Award will be announced.
