The following photos represent a small sampling of the displays honored at the 2000 ILDA Conference in Stuttgart, Germany. A thee-judge panel (Angie Howard, Walt Disney Entertainment, Carol Seidel, and Jonas von Stockhausen) reviewed over one hundred entries in eleven artistic categories.

Millennium Bugs, by Laservision Macro-Media:
1st Place, Graphic Module
. Performed each evening on a water screen at Sydney's Darling Habour, the show documents the metamorphosis of a butterfly and its interaction with an array of quirky creatures. Judging by crowd response at the Award Banquet, is was the most humorous show of the Conference.

Trip Like I Do, by AVI Imagineering with Lasers: 2nd Place, Abstract. Designed for planetarium theatres, the hypnotic effect was achieved through the use of modulating "S" curves pulsating from the center of the screen.

SIB 2000 Multimedia Show, by Laser Entertainment SRL:
Honorable Mention, Indoor Show.

This special show at the Rimini SIB 2000 fair combined laser graphics and video in a large-screen game. In the above photo, the game player sees a laser cockpit as he chases a laser ship through a video planet while the crowd watches.

Allegro No. 5, by Laser Animation Sollinger:
3rd Place, ISP Beam Module
.
Boy meets girl in this unusual beam show that tells a story. The playful piece was a big hit when shown at the LaseOff.

Berlin 2000, LOBO electronic: 2nd Place, Outdoor Show.
One of Europe's largest Millennium parties (2 million people on site) featured LOBO's laser projections onto a water screen in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Bocelli, by Laser Images: 3rd Place, Abstract.
The watchwords for this display were "romance" and "abstraction," so lumia was selected by the architect and effects coordinator to complement the decidedly romantic songs of Andrea Bocelli. The "sky show" was projected onto the 60-foot dome of the Romanza themed restaurant at the Reno Peppermil Resort in Reno, Nevada.

Tom Joad, by Laser Fantasy Int.: 3rd Place, Graphic Module
As LFI says: "What do you get when you combine a moody song, moody abstracts, and moody graphics? A really cool graphic module .... And by the way, the song is about the ghost of Tom Joad, not the ghost of Tome Jones. Who, to some people's dismay, is not dead. Yet."
