Lasers Gone Wild for Orlando Weekend Festivities

A dance part for 5,500 people was just one job of many for Laser Production Network during a busy June weekend.

The annual June Circuit Party Weekend in Orlando featured Laser Production Network’s (LaserNet) “lasers gone wild” shows at three different venues. With thousands of enthusiastic dancers at each location, LaserNet president Tom Harmon said the company pulled out all the stops.

“It’s a rarity that we get a client who has the vision and desire to let us bring out all the big toys and let us outdo ourselves,” said Harmon. The three Florida locations, all part of the annual Gay Days celebration, included Hard Rock Live, Universal Studio’s Sound Stage 21 and the Arabian Knights arena.

The Hard Rock Live show featured LaserNet’s remote Beam Dancers, projectors that channel an aerial beam originating from across the dance floor into a pair of x/y scanners.  In addition to the Beam Dancers and 24 bounce mirrors, LaserNet added a 10-watt white-light laser and a 25-watt YAG fitted with three scan heads.. The Arabian Kings Dinner Theatre after-hours party for 4,000 people started at 2:00 am and went until 9:00 am. The arena (used for horse jousting matches) was converted to a dance floor where a 5-watt white-light ScannerPro jammed to the music.

To entertain 5,500 people at the Universal show, LaserNet brought in six DMX-controlled Beam Movers, which are large pan and tilt mirrors that catch high-powered beams from remote locations and sends them back out over the audience. A white-light system (20 watts of argon plus 5 watts of krypton) included CTI scanner heads, 20 bounce mirrors, a 180-degree diffraction fan, dual spinning diffraction gratings, and two Beam Dancers.

Another 1,500 people jammed Universal’s outdoor patio, which was decorated with a Jurassic Park theme. A 30-foot tall T-Rex dinosaur loomed over the patio, framed by laser beams generated from a pair of  LaserNet’s 25-watt ScannerPro projectors.
